U.S. open

every year, just north of where I live, Huntington Beach; which is considered Surf City, USA hosts the U.S. Open of surfing
it is usually held the first week of August
and the whole event is a complete zoo.
people will be on the beach from sun rise to sun set watching the various surf, skate and BMX competitions as well as various performing artists.
the event is hosted by Hurley, Nike, and Converse
sadly, I did not get a chance to go this year, but the scene is crazy there so I decided to share some pictures with you all.

it was a great week for the U.S. Open of Surfing,
the swell was huge and the weather was awesome.

fall fashion

there are a few downsides of working in retail; you don't get paid enough and some people can be just straight up rude.
but trust me, working in retail definitely has its pluses.
I love when the new product comes in and the discount is awesome.
I currently work for Quiksilver and we have just started to get all of our Fall '11 product in,
here are a few of my fave pieces from the Quiksilver Women's Collection as well as Roxy.

1. Quiksilver Women's Snow Blanket Cardigan
2. Quiksilver Women's Autumn Leaves Camisole
3. Roxy Single Speed Jacket
4. Roxy The Past Dress
5. Roxy Miwok Sweater

summer must haves

here are a few items that have gotten me through the summer. thought I would share them with you. they are must haves for a day at the beach or a quick roadtrip down the coast.

1. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.. how does the ocean somehow always create awesome curls that are impossible to replicate? this does the trick!
2. Victoria's Secret Crochet Cover-Up.. sexy but cute.
3. Roxy "Traveler" Back Pack.. the perfect bag to pack up all the essentials.
4. Rayban Wayfarers.. can't live without mine.
5. Roxy "Wild at Heart Brazillian Bikini".. a great mix of floral and stripes
6. Maui Babe Browning Lotion.. "a secret of the islanders" this lotion gives you a fantastic bronze, who wouldn't want an awesome summer glow?

what are your summer must haves?

design for humanity

each year one of my absolute favorite brands, Billabong, hosts the Design for Humanity event.
it is a night of fashion, music, art, food, and lots of beer and cocktails.
this year the event was on June 15 which was the night before I had three finals but trust me, I wasn't going to miss it.
they hosted the event at Paramount Studios and they couldn't have picked a better venue. the movie sets all around the property created an awesome setting for such an amazing event.
there is obviously a reason for the name of the event, Design for Humanity and that is that all proceeds from the event go towards a specific charity.
this year the proceeds were given to the Save the Music Foundation which gives money to schools to fund their music programs.
anyway, my favorite part of the whole night was the fashion show of course but the art exhibits and artist they had perform, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes, were pretty incredible as well.

surfing glamour

change of pace

this blog started out as a way for me to write about my time at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, features on designers, and some interesting stores I came across.
this blog started out when I thought I was on a set path to high fashion glamour
about two months into my education at FIDM I fell back in love with the surf/skate industry
growing up I was a girly girl and I always will be, but the surf and skate industry just fascinates me.
it's a lifestyle, it's not going away, it's down to earth, it's hectic, and surprising.
and it's still extremely girly and fashionable.
but it is also misunderstood.
the surf and skate industry is viewed as a boys world. which makes "making it" in this industry as a girly girl twice as appealing to me.

frox&fame is now about the surf and skate industry, a lot of people may lose interest in my blog but this is what interests me.

I hope a lot of people are still interested to stop by and check my blog out!
